Hi all,
I've just discovered this game and it really does seem to be pretty much fully playable.
What is it? A single player, offline, story-driven text-based game which seems to run in a browser/electron window, however what's really cool is, much like Dark Defender and anything by Shift Baptic, the game has audio support. So there is original music included. This has been around for a couple of years and hasn't been mentioned before. Interestingly, it is created in Twine. I've actually put a thread up on Itch's community page for the game asking if any access changes might be able to be made, as the menu button is not labeled but it works, and as mentioned earlier I can't seem to find a way to access the stats screen.
There is strategy management, you gain renoun, merry men to help your cause, gold to spend, and, honestly the scope of this seems quite large. I've been going for an hour and I feel like I'm just getting started. I believe the game is on Steam as well.
Here is the link on Itch:

Interestingly, there is an iOS version, and, as I write this, I've also loaded it up, and am noticing a huge difference: everything's labeled! It's also cheaper, 4 pounds vs the Itch version's 18 pounds after VAT which they seem to be adding on for purchases. The only thing is, this version has no music, so whilst it's cheaper, I do think the PC version is a little more immersive, but if you want a good story game, the iOS version won't go wrong either.
Oh, and yes, I really do mean it when I say that Dark will enjoy this one, the more I thought about it the more I realized you know what? This feels like his kind of game, and with the music and all that it seems immersive. I'm also loving it too.

Take care, it's a desert out there.

Great minds think alike, I must have edited it into post 1 just as you posted. I'll put it below as well for convenience.

Okay I've downloaded this and it looks great, but I'm a bit worried about the stat screen issue, since the resource management side of things looks like a lot of fun.

the stats are as far as I've gathered %100 unreadable on Pc, yet equally, they seem to play a large part in what you do, EG managing your camp and merry men.

It's odd, in most twine games I've seen like slime girl caverns, stats are shown in the top status bar, but here there is a level one heading with the year at the bottom.

Even when I've used Ocr I can't find them, which is odd.

So, I really hope there is some news of fixes on this.

On the plus side, so long as you have "clickable", Reported in NVDA, finding the hotspots to click on is no trouble at all, which is nice, indeed even the text overlays for stuff like the tutorial are presented really well with "click to close", indeed at first I thought the clickable element at the top of the screen would show stats, but sadly not.

I wonder if displaying them in the game's status bar or ading some sort of stats overlay would do? since if they are actually printed in text I'm a bit confused as to why they aren't being read.

So what is this game anyway? Is it an RPG of sorts? Is it linear? If so, is it split up into chapters, and is there a way to go back to parts if I wish to grind if it is indeed an RPG?

Hello.
Stats are not accessible by reading the text in the game, but there is a workaround.
I speak about the PC version.
Disable the screenreader or put it in sleep mode, then select and copy all the text.
When you paste it somewhere, you will see all stats at the end of the current text, just above the date.
I found out just now that pressing INSERT+F2 before selecting the text is enough, without the need to disable NVDA.
Credit goes to the developer for discovering the workaround.
To see when you get Power or whatever when it happens, go to the end of the text during a scene.
You might be able to read it if you are quick enough.
The information disappears shortly after appearing.

I think I'll give this one a miss until the stats screen thing is fixed, plus 20 bucks for a text game is incredibly steep.

Take care, it's a desert out there.

The iOS version is completely accessible and only costs five bucks.

2022-01-29 21:32:38

Also five euros in Europe

I have one question: is all stats:
gold, renown, power and men?

2022-01-30 00:29:39 (edited by Luel 2022-01-30 00:34:07)

Yes.
Also Graced.
For example, I paste stats from my current game.
Princess Robin
of Sherwood
Gold 2
Renown 571
Men 246
Power 29
Graced
Graced means I can do any action even if Robin does not have a required stat to do it normally.
After which, Graced is used up.

On the iOS version how do you turn on music and sounds?

2022-01-30 10:15:28

A post above says that there are no music and sounds in this version.

Hi.
Awesome. Going to check it out on IOS.

Best regards SLJ.
Feel free to contact me privately if you have something in mind. If you do so, then please send me a mail instead of using the private message on the forum, since I don't check those very often.

I have an update from the developer, and this explains a lot.
Essentially, they are not able to commit due to the team having a lot of life changes. The game has not been updated since 2019.
However, I don't think all is lost. If the stats are variables in game, and since it's an electron window, could there either be:
1: a program created that allows us to read stats from memory
or even
2. Since the game is programmed in Twine, could we mod it, fixing the menu button unlabeled in the process as well? We wouldn't be changing any of the game's content, more quality of life improvements ala Say the Spire and Hearthstone Access. There is an index html file located in the game folder somewhere. My recommendation would not be to modify *any* of the game's story content, cheat the game, or anything like that. Instead, *only* add access fixes and that is it. I'd even be happy to go so far to ask the developer for permission for us to do this and send the resulting file to them in the hopes that they might even be able to patch it in as an extra download. Unfortunately, it won't be me who writes the addition in as I unfortunately do not have enough html knowledge and would be worried about breaking the interface to be honest.

This game is awesome, but the game does in fact have a pretty massive bug. When I try to type out how many artifacts I want to excavate, the text field doesn’t let me in. For reference, I have the iOS version, so I’m not sure if it is just for that or if it is a consistent bug on all platforms, but I hope the developers come back soon. The accessibility has some jank to it, but it is quite good otherwise.

2022-02-13 04:34:22

I have the iOS version, so this might just be a problem on it, but all of the options for the architect studio don’t work. I’ve tried every single option, but the text field just doesn’t let me in. I really hope the developers get back soon, because this game is quite fun and very accessible, but this is a pretty massive bug.

Since this is written im twime, can I run it on my android via browser?

2022-02-13 10:13:33

@Kenshira, I actually wish it was possible to run as a standard html document like most twine games, since then there likely wouldn't be an issue with reading the stats.

The problem is, the game is a self contained program running from an .exe file, and though the output is an html document, it's got lots of fancy stuff going on too.

2022-02-13 10:58:29

O I see. Thanks for clarifying.

2022-02-13 17:06:15

I wrote to the developers on The problems pertaining to the accessibility with this game, and they told me that they have since moved on and aren’t coming back to it.

2022-02-13 18:05:25

I sent the developer this thread and he said it was very helpful, and he also said that he would forward this thread to the main developers and see what they c Will do. He also said that, in whatever his next game is, he will keep accessibility in mind.

2022-02-13 18:48:19

I wish they'd at least port the game over to android. I would definitely pay for it based on the description alone.
