How would i get crystal clear from discord? Do i need to ask in a certain server? I tried getting it by googling, but i may have got the wrong version. I googled pokemon crystal clear version 2.5.1 and used the first result i got.

@ 926:
Just get it from gbahacks.com. It's much easier and has the version you're looking for. Make sure you choose the button under the download section that says GBA hacks since that one will actually start the download directly instead of going through a bunch of crazy websites that are hard to navigate with a screen reader.

Ok, i got it from gbahacks.com, but when i run it, run the script and hit shift h, nvda says no gba available. I will try downloading the script again.

To the people who can't press shift H or any other commands, turn off Nummlock. If you're using JAWS, that might also be the problem. Just use NVDA for the games.
For Crystal Clear's footstep sounds, put the following in: Pokemon Access, lua, game, Crystal-Clear, en, memory.
ROM_FOOTSTEP_FUNCTION = 0x19d5d3
ROM_TILE_FLAGS = 0x4c000
To find that, use the find command (in Jane and Notepad it's control F) and search for the word footstep. Make sure you're at the beginning of the line, delete the two lines and paste the lines about footsteps and tile flags. I'd highly recommend using Notepad instead of Jane to edit that file, but use whatever you want. Be warned, though, that if you use Jane it will not read the punctuations. I think that's just an issue with the program, not NVDA or JAWS.

I use nvda. How can i know if numpad is active or not?

2022-02-02 20:29:32 (edited by boy 2022-02-02 20:32:31)

Their should be a key on your numpad that turns numlock on or off. If you don't know where it is, turn on input help (NVDA 1), and press various keys on the numpad until you find it. It might even turn off numlock automatically when you press it. If you're using a laptop without a numpad, I think their is a way you can have one of the keys act like numlock. Google would have a better answer for that.

@ 929:
I tried copying and pasting and it still won't give me footstep sounds. Thanks for trying to help though.

@930:
You press the num lock key and it'll say either 'num lock on' if it's on or 'num lock off' if it's off.

Did you make sure that the script detected that you're playing Crystal Clear? Even if you pasted the code for the footsteps, you need to make sure that the scripts know that you're playing Crystal Clear. The only other things I can think of are
1: where did you put the lines? They should go directly below
RAM_PUZZLE_CURSOR = 0xcf65
and above
KEYBOARD_STRING = "DEL   END"
2: which text editor did you use? I've only used Notepad, Jane and Word. I know it works fine with Notepad, but Jane or Word might have problems. Hmm, it seems to work fine with Jane as well... I haven't tested it with Word since Word is made for .doc and .docx files, not .txt files.

@ 933:
The only thing out of that short list you mentioned I can't do is change the script to crystal clear. I started the newest version of crystal clear and can't get it to let me change it with shift h. I made sure that num lock was off and use NVDA already, so that's not the issue. I never got the footsteps thing to work with crystal clear regardless even on earlier versions for some weird reason. I try shift h and it doesn't do anything even after making sure num lock is off.
Edit:
I use notepad for trying to add the footstep stuff. Sorry, forgot to add that earlier.

2022-02-02 23:06:11

I followed the directions exactly also and it didn't work. I even hit shift h and made sure the base folder was crystal-clear and the language was set to English. I tried it using ver 2.5.1 of the game and there is exactly 1 line between the edited code and the untouched stuff. To edit, I used notepad.

I also am unable to choose the folder for the crystal clear script. I have both numlock and scrollock turned off and use nvda. When i hit shift h, nvda says something with no found. I do not know what it says exactly since the message dissapears too fast.

If you use the camera to tell you what's around on the screen (and it will literally list things and people and buildings,) you can still play even without footsteps. I haven't gotten the pathfinder to work either by the way, but since I don't usually use it, it's not a huge issue for me.

2022-02-03 16:58:13

yeah, literally no keys are working for me, although text and menues are reading strangely enough.

Take care, it's a desert out there.

I really like how  in depth the pokedex in crystal clear is. It gives all kinds of info to help you decide how to grow your pokemom. There is supposed to be some side quest info there too but I have no clue how to access it.

Has anyone ever looked for a hack just for fun that is all about strategic combat and does not use puzzles at all?

2022-02-04 12:44:59

There is a Pokemon Red battle Factory hack, I would imagine that is the closest to what you are looking for. More infos here:

Unless you have some vision and can see part of the screen, that's not a good idea. If you're using the lua scripts, that game won't work at all--I've tried it.

2022-02-04 16:16:44

That's rather sad. I was aware of hacks which didn't work at all with the scripts, like the Pokemon Black & White 3 genesis demo, or Pokemon Grape. I didn't think it could be much worse than polished crystal at this point but yeah, that's how it is.

2022-02-04 19:01:24

I would avoid trying to play Prism too. Yu can get some stuff to work, but there are lots of parts where you havta follow characters or find them in specific places and lots of puzzles too that make it hard to play while blind or with little vision. Prism's a really cool game and you can find great walkthroughs out there, just not very playable for us is all.

You mean the Battle Factory hack? I don't know why... But it works with the scripts. Their are even footstep sounds and pathfinder. I don't know how I can prove it, but it does. The game is very simple to play, and their seem to be only two important things to remember.
1: talk to what the pathfinder says is Oak to choose Pokemon.
2: when he says receptionist, pathfinder calls them a nurse. Talk to them and you can start fighting.
Also for the people who can't press shift H, this might help. It's not about the Pokemon Access program, but I figured I'd put it here either way.

Is there a battle factory hack for gen 2, or a gem 2 hac with a battle factory? I think that was one of my favorite features to be introduced in emerald, along with the 3 round battles. Heck, I really liked the battle tents and whole frontier im emerald and later games. It gave us a ton more to do after the credits rolled.

do any of you know the code for footstep function on pokemon crystal sour?
it is very much accessible to this current scrypts but no footstep on it.

Hey guys, just a heads up for when you go through ice path in crystal clear, and you're gonna have to for water fall. Go through it backwards, from the entrance in the north side  of blackthorn city, not from mahogany side. It will make it easier to get through. I was able to finish it without a guide. You dont even need to push the rocks into place anymore, but rocks smash will help.

I apologize to those mentioning battle factory. I got the name confused with factory adventure. Factory adventure definitely doesn't work though; I've tried it.

Hi there,

I bring very important news for Pokémon Access.

Last week I received some mails about 3rd generation games and this script. It seems someone (I would credit him but he said he doesn't have an account here on audiogames) told me about an alternative method to approach the problem of VBA-Rr and LUA on GBA.
I though this method was the most appropiate in the current circunstances but I didn't liked it very much. It could prove to be dangerous because it modified the game's wram on a bad manner in some scenarios.
However, taking this idea as a base, I thought that I could get the original VBA-Rr's code and fix the errors regarding LUA scripts.
Imagine what a surprise I get when I take a look into the code and these bugs are already solved. The problem is that the most recent version of VBA-Rr is from the year 2013, and hte last commit into the code is from 2019 (6 years of fixes...). After some problems I compiled this version and... guess what? Now I have a Pokémon fire red script which plays footsteps.

So... officially, Pokémon Access development for GBA begins now. Don't expect a lot of things for now, the GBA is very complex, much more than a GameBoy or GameBOY Color.
